Daily Word for Lenten Season - February 17

“Light”

Light is the opposite of darkness, but also opposite of heavy. Think about those times when you feel heavy, weighed down, overwhelmed, or under a lot of pressure. How can you be lifted up? I think sometimes when I feel inspired, a touch from God perhaps, I am no longer engulfed by darkness, but I have seen some light. It may be at the end of the tunnel, but at least it gives me a hope that soon gloom will be shattered by light.

Prayer: Lord, help me to trust you in the midst of heaviness as well as in the midst of darkness. Amen.

“Love”

This is not an unusual word to think about when we think about God. Yet for many of us much of the time when we think about God we think about a judge ticking off those things we do that are good and those things we do that are bad. But it was God who sent his son to save us. It was God who brings us wonder and joy. It is God who prepares a place for us. Love and God are one. How has God loved you today?

Prayer: O Lord, give us the eyes to see, the minds to know, and the hearts to perceive you want the best for us. Help us to receive your love in all its many manifestations today. Amen.

Daily Word for Lenten Season - February 15

"Still"

This is one of the hardest things for us to do, because it means we don’t do, we just sit or stand or lay quietly. Too often we don’t feel we are important if we are not doing something. How do we hear God if we are distracted by our business? We can hear, but it is difficult. Try this day to take five minutes and be still. Just sit and listen to the world around you. Then thank God for this moment of stillness. You may be surprised at what you hear.

Prayer: Lord, help us to savor silence. Help us to open our ears and hearts so we can hear your whispers of love through your creation, through our friends and even through the breath we take in and then out. Amen.
