Daily Word for Lenten Season - February 15

"Still"

This is one of the hardest things for us to do, because it means we don’t do, we just sit or stand or lay quietly. Too often we don’t feel we are important if we are not doing something. How do we hear God if we are distracted by our business? We can hear, but it is difficult. Try this day to take five minutes and be still. Just sit and listen to the world around you. Then thank God for this moment of stillness. You may be surprised at what you hear.

Prayer: Lord, help us to savor silence. Help us to open our ears and hearts so we can hear your whispers of love through your creation, through our friends and even through the breath we take in and then out. Amen.

“Fast”

This is an interesting word because so often when we see it we think it is about moving quickly. Yet in Biblical terms it usually refers to a time when we abstain from something, food, drink, meat, or something that we go without for a while. This is usually time when we slow down to contemplate our relationship with God. It is usually a time when we are more attentive to God than our own desires.

Prayer: Lord, help me today to not only be grateful for all that I have, but be thankful when I do take the time to slow down. Help me to be patient in this life so I can savor the blessings you have given me. Amen.

“Choose”

We always have a choice on how to act. We always have a choice on what to say. The question for us today is not whether we have a choice or not, but what do we choose? Or maybe whom do we choose? As we walk along today’s path whom do we choose to follow? The choices you make today tell others whom you follow. Whom do you choose this day?

Prayer: Lord, help me to choose you. Help me not to be distracted with all the choices I make this day, but help me be sure of whom I follow by the choices I make today. Amen.
