Summer Words

We just finished driving over 1700 miles from California to Texas. At the beginning of the week it seemed a daunting task, but once done it didn’t seem to take that long. Sure we took our time, four days in fact, and we had a few amazing events; a prayer garden and a take and run out the grocery store (we weren’t the takers), both of these were in LA; a got-a-find-a-bathroom-real-quick while on a barren stretch through New Mexico (which we found); and an amazing series of cloud formations in the sky in Texas. The good part of this tired is the sleep which rejuvenated us each night so we could continue on the road the next morning. There will be times when we will get tired because of all our activity, but God gives us rest and a new day. We are grateful to be here.

Lord, you give us desires which lead us to all corners of the world and yet everywhere we go you are with us at that place. We are so grateful for the freedom to travel and the resources to find new places to settle in your world. Thank you for keeping us safe on our journey and reminding us that wherever we go you are there with us. We can never out pace you nor can we ever run away from you. Help us to never want to shut you out of our lives because wherever we are you make the experience so much richer. Thank you for being our God and calling us to be your global people. Amen.

Summer Words

I think too often we get sucked into the thinking that we need to do everything on our own. That is so far from the truth. I don’t know any leader in the bible who fulfilled their mission on their own. Even Jesus relied on the three disciples, Peter, James, and John to support him in presence, on the Mount of Transfiguration; prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane, and in partnership, as they fished for people throughout Judea during his time of ministry. We need family, friends, and future colleagues to help us live our calling. We need support ourselves as well as being a support for others.

Lord, remind us that we don’t have to go it alone. Others need us as much as we need them. Help us to be open to the help that is offered to us, especially in those times when we feel helpless. This will also encourage others to receive help when needed. We are all in this together so let us not only give support to others, but let’s receive it as well. Amen.

Summer Words

Interesting word for this week. I would have never thought of using this word when thinking about faith, yet sunshine is a word that conjures up health, happiness, and hope in my mind. It is the opposite of gloom or darkness. It is a word which speaks to us of God’s presence in all its glory. It is a word which reminds us that even in the moments of our life when the sun is blotted out by the moon that sun will shine again, because God is God of life.

Lord, help us to never be so overwhelmed by the darkness of events that we forget who brings us light. You are there to bring us joy in the morning, like a sunrise after a stormy night. You are there to bring us rays of light through the dark clouds which threaten our well being. You are not only there around us, but you are here with us. Thank you for the love for us. Amen.
