Inspiration

This is the fuel of life for me. This is also God-given for me. It is only something or someone outside of myself that gives me inspiration. I don’t have an inspiration button or gene or neuron which gives me energy, but I certainly experience inspiration on a daily basis. I believe that when I come up against a problem or a barrier or a dead end God will give me a way out. It may mean consequences not to my liking but it helps me move forward in life. Inspiration helps me grow and that is transforming about God-given inspiration.

Lord, help us to recognize the inspiration you give us. Help us to seek you inspiration for our problems or concerns. Help us to know that the solutions to our problems or concerns are for our benefit. As we are surprised by your inspiration in our lives let us give thanks that we can be inspired to be transformed into someone beyond our imagination. Amen.

Impatient

Is this something we learn or is it something that comes naturally? If you observe children you will find that when they want something they want it now. Catering to their desires will only make matters worse and soon they expect or feel they are entitled to what they want immediately. Yet don’t we appreciate possessions, achievements, and relationships the longer it takes to cultivate them? Being impatient can mean we have a desire for something and God gives us desires, but along with that desire we need to learn to be patient to fulfill that desire. Let us be impatient about those things which would make the world better, like love, justice and peace, but let us be patient about those things which satisfy us possessions, achievements, and relationships.

Lord, thank you that we have desires and expectations to receive that which is good. Help us to be patient for those things which enrich our lives, but be impatient for those things which enrich the world. Help us to yearn for a speedy resolution for a world that needs love, justice and peace, but be willing to be patient as we seek our role in this endeavor. Give us the an urgency to help others but patience to help ourselves. Amen.

Hunger

This is what keeps us alive. I don’t just mean hunger for good. I mean hunger for life. I mean that which gives us the motivation to continue on. If we lose our appetite, for food, or for living, not only will our body starve, but our soul will atrophy as well. If we no longer have the desire to live, if we aren’t hungry for life, then there is no reason to live. Yet if you feel like life is not worth living then know this, God wants you to live. God not only wants you to survive, but God wants you to thrive. God put that hunger in you, find out what feeds you and live life to the full.

Lord, help us to continue on. Help us to find out what is life-giving for us. Help us to taste what it means to thrive in the midst of our fight to survive. Lord, you created us, you gave us our desires, desires to experience wonder, beauty, and life. Help us to do what we need to do to feed the hunger you gave us, and we thank you not only for food for our bodies, but also food for our soul. Amen.
