Nourishment

For something to survive it needs nourishment. Food gives us the nourishment our bodies need to survive, yet God wants more for us. God wants us to thrive and to thrive we need not only nourishment for our bodies, but nourishment for our souls. We need something to sustain us and something to help us grow. People who have all their physical needs met still will whither if they don’t have something to strive towards. If people don’t have a sense of becoming a better person or a conviction that tomorrow will be better than today, they will lose hope for living in the present. So what you a doing that gives nourishment for your soul?

Lord, help us to recognize your desire for us to become more than we are. Help us to seek new ways we can grow into a better person tomorrow than we are today. Lord, help us to be motivated to seek nourishment for our soul. Help us to feed on that which will satisfy our soul and give us what is needed to grow into the person we can be, and not just be content to be the person we are. Amen.

Migration

This is a movement from one place to another. It is a movement by a group or a community to a new place. It is also a movement towards a place more suitable, at least for the time being, to those migrating. It is a movement to the place where those who are moving are destined to go. It is in the plan, the strategy, the DNA to which they have been called. Sometimes the way is hard and sometimes the way is easy, but it is the place to which we are called, it is our home.

Lord, help us to listen to your voice. Help us to know when it is time to move on and where it is we need to plant. You don’t give us a place just to settle, but a place for which we are made. Help us to embrace the challenge and to be glad we have you to follow. We know we are going to a better place, give us the courage to go there. Amen.

Love/Loved

A word so hard to define. Our language has one word that the Greeks use at least three to try to convey. Perhaps the best way for us to think about this word is to know that love is defined by the fact that we are loved. We are loved by God. We are precious and cherished by the one who exhibits love. We are given mercy and grace and forgiveness because the one who is love had gave us all these. Know that if we want to know what love is we need to know the God of the universe who sacrificed his one and only son so that we might be his friend and compatriot forever.

Lord, help us to not just know, nor to just feel, but help us to experience the love which has no end. Help us experience the love which will be there for us no matter what we do or say. Help us experience the love which not only is given to us freely, but can be shared. Love is a many splendid thing, but mostly a commitment to embrace us at all times, in all ways to meet our greatest need. Amen.
