Summer Words

Cornerstone

There are certain things in our life which we consider fundamental to life. I don't mean food, water, or shelter, but those things which are life giving to us. I really like peanut butter and rice cakes. I am also a fan of the outdoors, gardening and fly fishing mostly. I like chatting with people, but also love reading. These are all things that bring comfort and vitality to my life. But when hard times come I find that prayer, reading the Psalms, and listening to God give me the motivation to continue on. Jesus is called our cornerstone. He is the one who when set firmly in our life will give us the foundation and strength to continue. What is life giving for you? And do you have a cornerstone to stand on? If not consider the one who died for us all.

Lord, thank you for giving me those things which make me feel full of life. Thank you for listening to my heart and bringing comfort to my soul. When there is no where else to turn you are always there. Help me to stand firmly on my cornerstone for you are my rock and my redeemer. Hallelujah! Amen.

Peace to you, Pastor Randy

Summer Words

Connect

This word can be scary or it can be exciting. Sometimes we are afraid to connect with others because we aren't confident that we have something to offer them. Other times we are excited about what God is doing in our lives and we can't wait to share it with others. Whether we are tentative or we are exuberant we have something to share with those around us. We are capable of connecting with others, this is a God given attribute. This is one of the reasons God made us in the first place. We were made to connect with God and we were made to connect with others. So let's look forward to familiar as well as new connections today and celebrate our ability to connect with others.

Lord, sometimes we feel alone, sometimes we feel we have nothing to offer this world or those around us. Help us to remember that part of our DNA includes our ability to connect. Sometimes that connection is for our benefit, but also sometimes that connection is for the benefit of others. Help us to not isolate ourselves from you or this world, for being connected is part of who we are and who we are becoming. Thank you for making this part of us. Amen.

Summer Words

Commitment

Words of commitment can be the most powerful words we ever speak. They can set us on a course in life that will change not only who we are, but the lives of those around us. They can set lofty goals for us that will be a challenge to reach. They can tie us to a person or a community which will be bond that can last forever. Yet whether commitment is made to a person or a community, or whether the commitment is to an ideal or a calling I believe we will need God to help us follow through. And that is a commitment we have from God when we receive him and follow his way for us. Jeremiah 29:11

Lord, we know you have plans for us. You have a purpose for us. Help us not only to receive your gift of grace, but to embrace the covenant, the commitment, you have made with us. Help us to not be shy in saying those words and not be reluctant to follow you. Help us to be truly committed to you as Savior and Lord. Amen.
