Summer Words

This is what we are. This is not something we can earn, but certainly something we all need. Yet if we need it so badly why do we not share with others so readily? It can be hard to ask for and sometimes even harder to receive, but I am so thankful that I have the opportunity to ask God and others for it. Perhaps today not only will I ask for it, but I will give to all those who need it, even if they do not ask. Perhaps that is the greatest gift we can give ourselves is to offer forgiveness.

Lord, help me not only to acknowledge my need for forgiveness, but make me more aware of my need for it. And Lord help me to forgive others as freely as you have forgiven me and help me to allow you to be their judge. Too often we judge others, and many times that judgment is only because they remind us of our own failings. A mirror should help us to grow in compassion and grace instead of tryanny and judgment. Help us to forgive as we have been forgiven. Amen.

Summer Words

A good word to remember. Yes, it is important for us to remember that we will never be forgotten, by God. But on the other hand God will forget our sins when we have confessed and been forgiven for them. We may find it hard to forget those sins of othes against us, but then we are to do that which God does for us. We are to leave our past behind, to forget that which has driven or lured us away from God, looking at our life as something that is new. So if God forgets those times we have caused him pain and broken our relationship with him, so shouldn't we forget those times others have done the same to us. Remembering sins only keeps the prisoner chained to them and that prisoner too often is us.

Lord, help us to be grateful for all that you have forgotten about us and how you have forgotten those times we turned from you. Help us also to forget those times when we have been treated poorly by others. Help us to be free from the chain of memory which does not allow for things to change. Help us to be transformed and allow those around us to be transformed as well. Help us to break free from those difficult memories and cling to that memory which we cherish, your love for us. Amen.

Summer Words

This has been a week to remember the man who went before us. The responsibilities of fathers has changed over the decades. I think they have changed for the better. I think most of them are more involved with their families than they used to be. I think they have more expectations on them than they used to have. I think there is more support for them than there used to be also. Yet I still have times when I miss my dad. I long for someone to talk to about those questions that really don't have an answer, yet it would be comforting to know that even the one who went before me is also in a quandry. I am glad also to know that even though no earthly father can answer all me questions at least the heavenly one will never leave me nor forsake me. "This is my Father's world." May I come to him whenever I am in need.

Lord, you are the one who calls us be our name. You are the one who hears our petitions and listens to all our questions. I am so thankful that I had a father who loved me the best way he could. I also am glad that I have had an opportunity to try my hand at parenting with someone who is more compassionate, loving, and wise than I am. Help us all to be available to any who comes to us for advice and help us to tell them they have a heavenly parent who loves them more than they can ever imagine. Amen.
