What is the difference between a leader and a follower? I think one thing that differentiates these two is calling, but I also think a good leader is willing to be a good disciple, a disciple of someone they respect. In fact I think when leaders no longer consider themselves disciples then they have lost their way. There is only one leader of all and none of us are it. Whenever I consider following someone I look to see if they are willing to also be a follower, not that they never depend on their own leadership to make decisions, but that they are willing to modify their behavior if they learn something new that is beneficial to those they lead. So let us strive to be leaders when that is our call, but never forget we need to also be disciples.

Lord, help me to discern when my leadership is needed and when I need to be a disciple. Help me to never forget you are the only one who fulfills the leadership role at all times. And when I strive to be your disciple, help me to be fully committed to following you. Amen.

Two words, which for us, are closely connected. Without a creator there would be no creation. Yet if there was no creation would there be a creator? Certainly there would, but it is the creation which helps define the creator. As we look around us at the creation we catch a glimpse of the creator. That is when we look at those around us we are catching a glimpse of the one who created us, but don't forget you too are a glimpse of that creator. You have within you a reflection of that creator. I think we can choose to reflect that creator or not. Today you can reflect your creator to those around you or not. What will you choose this day?

Lord, we often forget that though you created us you also gave us the free will to strive to be the creation you meant us to be. We can exhibit the hope, the joy, and the love you have to those around us or we can show the opposite. Help us this day to strive to be the creation you meant for us to be and know that as we choose to become a closer reflection of you we always have your Son to help us more clearly live out that reflection. Amen.

Summer Words

There are certain things in our life which we consider fundamental to life. I don't mean food, water, or shelter, but those things which are life giving to us. I really like peanut butter and rice cakes. I am also a fan of the outdoors, gardening and fly fishing mostly. I like chatting with people, but also love reading. These are all things that bring comfort and vitality to my life. But when hard times come I find that prayer, reading the Psalms, and listening to God give me the motivation to continue on. Jesus is called our cornerstone. He is the one who when set firmly in our life will give us the foundation and strength to continue. What is life giving for you? And do you have a cornerstone to stand on? If not consider the one who died for us all.

Lord, thank you for giving me those things which make me feel full of life. Thank you for listening to my heart and bringing comfort to my soul. When there is no where else to turn you are always there. Help me to stand firmly on my cornerstone for you are my rock and my redeemer. Hallelujah! Amen.

Peace to you, Pastor Randy
