For I am convinced that . . . [nothing]

will be able to separate us

from the love of God

that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38-39

This last Monday I had the opportunity to lead another memorial service for someone I didn’t know. This is always difficult for me because I long to make the service personal and I want to lift up the family in this time of need. I can share some of my thoughts with the family that day, but I have no opportunity for follow up. I also don’t know the person so any anecdotes I can share have to come from a family member with whom I have only briefly talked on the phone.

I take solace in the above verse. I know that even if I can’t fully convey the love of God during the service to this grieving family God will find a way. I consider it a privilege any time I am asked to share the love of God with his creation, be it people, animals, or even inanimate objects (that is taking care of this physical planet).

Also as a follower I consider sharing this love a responsibility. How can I not share the greatest news on earth? It is like the song”How can I keep from singing?” If you have within you the knowledge that no matter who you are, no matter what you have done, no matter how you respond to God’s care for you that God will always love you, this is news that needs to be shared.

This God who created not just you, but your family, your friends, and all of creation by which you are surrounded has chosen to love you more than you can imagine. I am so blown away by this fact, that at times I can only smile at my faltering steps along life’s journey and respond to God by saying “Thank You.”

I think many of us have opportunities to share God’s love. It may be the way we respond to someone’s question or request or their current state of mind. It may be the way we treat the world around us by being ecologically responsible. It may be how we take initiative when we see something that isn’t right or needs repair or needs an innovative way of doing something.

So when ever I am in a situation where I don’t feel I am fully qualified to be the best representative of God’s love I do my best preparation I can and then I give it up to God. Whenever I prepare for a service or a teaching assignment or a presentation I know that if nothing else comes across I want people to know that God loves them and I will do my darnest to do the same.

But through all our gyrations of trying to do what is right, trying to love this world and our neighbors, we need to know that God’s love is always there for us. We just need to thank him and share it when we get the opportunity, even if we don’t feel qualified.

Seeking to love the world as God loves us with you,

    Pastor Randy
