Community in Action “Goodness” April 18, 2020

Community in Action

Yesterday I talked about being “glorified.” Jesus glorified God by doing what he was called to do, which was to redeem us from our sins by dying on the cross. God glorified Jesus because Jesus followed through on his calling. Yet I think Jesus being glorified wasn’t just because of what he did it is also because of who he was.

In verse 5 of John 17 Jesus says, “And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.” The person who Jesus was was also part of why Jesus was glorified.

What kind of person are we? What words or what word would define who you are? I think there is one word which defines God and since we are created in the image of God that word would define us. That word is “Good.” Another “G” word, how about that.

God is good and so are we, when we are who God created us to be. Goodness is something that is at the core of our being. When God created the world and all that is in it, the common refrain found in Gensis chapter one is “and God saw that it was good.” In fact at the end of the writer’s story of creation it says God saw all that was made and it was “very good,” it was really good, it was goodness in all its glory.

“Goodness” is part of who we were created to be and goodness is the epitome of God’s creation. So as we travel this journey let us glorify God in all that we do and say and are. Let us be the good and to God be the glory. Hallelujah!!
