JKPC

Community in Action October 20, 2020

A couple of days ago I mentioned what a great staff we have who keep our Worship services and other programs happening, some new events and some well known like Vacation Bible School, but all are modified to meet the restrictions of our current situation.

But as a staff we know that we can’t do it by ourselves. We can’t make these programs and events happen unless we have volunteer support. So I want to make sure everyone knows that we have a volunteer base which assists or sometimes directs what goes on here at the JKPC campus.

Our Deacons are helping us keep in touch with members and friends of JKPC, especially those who are homebound or who are dealing with difficult life circumstances. The Deacons are constantly trying to find new ways to help us engage with each other no matter what our situation.

We also have Elders who are head of various committees also trying to find new ways to help us engage with each other and to keep our programs going and growing. I think I mentioned before that our Sunday School program for the K-5 age group is still going strong. Over 70 Sunday School packets were delivered not by Door Dash, but by staff and other volunteers, with activities and background material for the curriculum for the month of October.

We also have a volunteer group being lead my our new Youth Ministries Director Howard Lee working with our middle school and high school youth. Our Adult Education Elder is working with me to bring new and timely Adult Education programs.

We have volunteers running all the audio/visual equipment for each Sunday Service as well as volunteers setting up for the service, ushering during the service and taking down, which includes cleaning and disinfecting chairs, pop-ups, and other items used during the service. You may have noticed there is a place on Sign-up Genius where you can sign up to volunteer for some of these duties.

But I want to say that I couldn’t do what I do without another person who is always at my side. Someone who listens to my worries and concerns, about programs and people in our congregation and community. Someone who inspires me, supports me, and is my key motivator as your Pastor at JKPC.

I am of course talking about Joan, my wife. She is not one that enjoys being in the spotlight, in fact I may get in trouble for sending this out, but she is willing to pitch in where ever and when ever needed. She keeps me informed of what is happening in the world as well as discusses with me her own spiritual insight about what she is studying.

She has been my companion from California to Iowa and back. Her creativity and thoughtful writing continually inspire me and speak more clearly than I can ever hope to convey through my speech. She is my anchor and course corrector. She and Jesus have their hands full, let me tell you. There should definitely be a “Spouse of a Pastor Appreciation Month.”

So, know this what ever you see on Facebook or read in our communication to you is only the tip of the iceberg of all who are involved and connected here at JKPC.

If we can in anyway be there for you don’t hesitate to let us know. And if you long to join our efforts we can certainly find a place where you can plug in.

Working to be the feet, hands, and heart of Jesus in our world with you,

    Pastor Randy
