Community in Action "Share your Devotions for Advent" April 2, 2020

It was 37 degrees when Joan and I walked this morning. There was even frost on our lawn. Hard to believe that the day can turn so hot later on when there is frost in the morning. But then who would have thought that we might be being doing Virtual Church for eight weeks.

We are living in history making times. Of course this is not necessarily the history we would the chosen to be part of, at least in regards to the Covid-19 pandemic. Yet we can find ways to make this history a special time to remember.

Recently I have had some conversations with a few of our attenders about putting together an Advent devotional with thoughts from all those who are connected to JKPC. Advent is a time of waiting and yes I know Christmas is 267 days away, but now is the time when history is in the making. Now is the time when we are learning to wait for this pandemic to be over.

What are some of your thoughts about this time? Are there some good things happening which bring you hope? Do you find your faith being stretched? Do you experience moments of peace? What about an unexpected joy you experienced? Has love and the connection with others become more important in your life?

These are themes found in scripture, used in readings, and about which sermons are written during Advent. Have you written down some of your reflections about this time? If not maybe now is a time to do that. And perhaps you would be willing to share some of those thoughts with us.

Sue Fox has agreed to receive (suehfox@gmail.com) and compile all submissions you would like to be included in such a devotional. We ask that you keep your submission to around 250 words and be wiling for Sue and Joan McGrady-Beach to edit your piece for publication in a 2020 Advent Devotion by Friends of John Knox Presbyterian Church.

Each person adds something special to our world, our communities, and to our church. Perhaps this is an opportunity for you to contribute something inspirational which will be a record of this waiting time.

I look forward to reading whatever thoughts you have and if writing isn’t your thing perhaps you can take a picture or make a drawing to send me. I would love to receive a glimpse of your experience during this history making time.

    Blessings,

    Pastor Randy
