Becoming an Ally

Since September 2020, the JKPC Matthew 25 Task Force has written newsletter articles on the white person’s journey to self-awareness of inherent bias and prejudice, white privilege, whiteness, and color blindness. We white members of the Task Force strive to be Allies to Blacks and all People of Color.

We know the path forward is one of education and action.  For those of us who are white, we can no longer watch what is happening in our community and our country and stay on the sidelines. God’s Word tells us what to do.  Isaiah 1:17: "Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause." Please join us on this vital journey.

“Seek out books, articles, documentaries or podcasts to learn about the systemic oppression and racialized history of our country.”*

“Expand your media intake (entertainment, news sources, social media, etc.) to include Black voices.”*

“Learn about the experiences and struggles that Black people and other people of color face that are different from your own.”*

“Stay informed with what’s happening in your community.”*

On January 10, 2021, our pastor said during his sermon, “Change begins in our heart…We need to be the beginning of something different.”   JKPC, let us begin.
